The AMBOSS mission

AMBOSS

Empowering all doctors to provide the best possible care.

It’s a privilege to build tools for doctors who have committed their lives to the pursuit of caring for others; they are already heroes, we just get to boost their superpowers!

 Our ‘Why’

At the heart of every organization is one crucial question: Why do we do what we do?

Although our mission statement might look like it’s pointing at what we do rather than why we do it, it runs much deeper than that. When you understand the why behind your mission, everything else, including what you’re doing and how you’re doing it, falls into place.

We place doctors at the center of everything we do at AMBOSS and let our why, our mission statement, guide us. So, how did it come about, and how does it reflect what matters most to us at AMBOSS?

Forming our mission

From the start, nestled amongst the Founders’ hopes and dreams, was the desire to go beyond supporting med students studying for their finals. They wanted to support and empower them to be the best doctors they could be. Today, we’re making the transition from a student-focused company to a physician-focused one. It’s not that we’re moving on from students, more that we’re broadening our reach!

Pain points for today’s doctors

It’s no secret that technology is developing at a fast pace in today’s modern world, but we firmly believe doctors will remain a central player in the healthcare of the future. We see the struggles they face and will provide them with a physicians product that addresses each of the following main challenges:

  • Doctors are confronted with increasing amounts of medical research published daily, with only a fraction of it immediately relevant to patient care. Medical knowledge in 2020 doubles every 73 days! To put that into perspective, in 1950, it doubled every 10 years and in 1980, every 7 years.
  • Healthcare resources are mainly analog with 90% of clinics still using pagers, fax, and paper forms. Although doctors’ daily work is increasingly supported by digital technologies that augment clinical decision-making, when it comes to UX/UI and user-friendliness, those solutions are below average.
  • A physician’s time is limited with only 8 minutes to spend per patient! And with these three challenges combined, high-quality care becomes impossible to provide.

AMBOSS: where medicine & technology meet

AMBOSS will be at the crucial intersection of medicine and tech, actively driving excellence and supporting doctors with a tool that’s tailored to their needs and helps them transfer their knowledge into action. We distill medical knowledge and provide the information that doctors really need, and we do it in a way that’s fast and easily accessible.

Our new physicians’ product will offer the daily, real-time guidance that we believe will ultimately translate into improved patient outcomes. For example, we’re currently refining our search feature using new technology and algorithms that anticipate what the user might be looking for so doctors can find the information they need even faster.

With such vast volumes of research published each day, the consequence is that a massive amount of irrelevant, outdated, and incorrect medical knowledge (at least for patient care) circulates. Our aim at AMBOSS is to give doctors the possibility to access relevant and up-to-date medical information at the point of care to treat their patients in the best possible way.

A vision with impact: empowering all doctors!

Our vision for the future is to continue to reach doctors in Germany, the DACH countries, and across the globe. We know that our product holds great value for all doctors and we’re dedicated to making it accessible.

To achieve this and truly empower all doctors, we need a product that is accessible for all doctors. Our first step towards this goal is to build a product in English and we’re currently working on that and; in June 2020, we soft-launched a physicians’ product for the US market.

We’re also passionate about our new non-profit Global Health Initiative. Through this initiative, we aim to empower doctors in low- and middle-income countries and contribute to universal health coverage by supporting them to strengthen their health systems. Through the Global Health Initiaitve, we can contribute towards the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Achieving our purpose

In this technological age, circumstances change so quickly and we don’t know what challenges doctors will face in 10 years. But what we do know is that AMBOSS is improving overall patient care, making sure patients are treated according to the latest standards, and branching out across the globe. It’s a goal that’s always applicable and that we’ll strive for by continuing to empower all doctors wherever they are in the world or in their career.
